School of Art

What I have tried to produce within the School of Art is a website with the material, information and resources that I personally wish I had over 15 years ago when I realized that I had an interest in art.

I think that I have spent a long time learning ineffectively and what I want to try and offer here is material that will help people learn and develop more quickly and more effectively than they might otherwise do left to their own devices, and hopefully get more fun and satisfaction in the process.

Explaining the process

The school of art consists of two key areas. The Artists Process™ is a detailed model of the skills, methods and processes that an experienced artist will use. By carefully modelling this process it is possible to understand the creative process more fully, and more quickly than can be learnt by other means. Useful material is provided for each step of this process.

Introducing the courses

The courses that are provided will help artists learn and develop quickly. These courses are designed to fit within the framework of the Artists Process™ allowing the artist to develop the skills required by the creative process.

The basic drawing course has now been published. The course consists of 20 modules with many illustrations, diagrams and step by step demonstrations and introduces a simple to use but effective drawing process. You can view a few sample pages from the course here (1.5Mb PDF). There course is available now to anyone with access to the School of Art. Find out more about the basic drawing course.

The first half of the intermediate drawing course has now been published. The course consists of 20 modules with many illustrations, diagrams and step by step demonstrations and develops the methods from the basic course by introducing new methods and materials. The course also has a Video Demonstration for each module (over 3 hours worth for the course). You can view a few sample pages from the course here (1.6Mb PDF). There course is available now to anyone with access to the School of Art. Find out more about the intermediate drawing course.

  • You will also have access to a 36 page learning guide (view sample 0.6Mb PDF) to help you get the best out of the course material and the site.
  • Users of the School of art can now get their on-line certificate (which you can download and print yourself) when a course is completed (see example).

Students are encouraged to post their work to learn from each other. Students can also ask questions or seek clarifications about the modules
